My speech

This presentation reflects on a song I analysed.

THE BUSH

Today was the day where my journey starts, “into the bushes and through the wild.” Through the years I dreamed of adventure, and well today, it also starts with a new beginning. As I stroll down an old croaky road, my heart beats like a fish struggling without water. My mind is blown away by the view of nature surrounding me. I feel tough bark grinding against my fingertips as they slowly sweep off trees.  Finally I find a spot just perfect, so I set out my tent.

Darkness came and nature was quiet which was a bit scary, I lay alone watching the bonfire light as it's ashes turn into thick air when suddenly I hear crackling through the bush. I shone my torch out to see if anything was there, but there only stood trees. As I turned back I hit into a six foot hairy beast. “Ahhh!!! was all I could yell. . I quickly moved back and ran like I was winning an Olympic race. My feet were exhausted hoping to see light again. As I was running I thought to myself “Is this the end” .? “ Is my life over ” .?  “ Is anyone going to find me”.? these questions were slowing me down so rapidly I took a turn.

Finally a big bright light shone onto me I thought I was dead and God was here to collect me or someone found me , a survivor. I zoomed towards the light to see. As I got to the light I hear a voice, but my ears were just exhausted and my eye vision was not very clear.  He or she picks me up and takes me to where I could be taken care of. This was my journey....

Book Review Chapter 1-6

Chapter 1-2

Kirby’s mum had left her and had gone to Africa, she said it was for her own good. Her mum had told her brother to look after Kirby while she was gone to Africa for two years. Her uncle's name was Caleb, they were religious. When Kirby had met the family she asked if she could watch the television to see if anything had happened to her mother but her aunt said they have no television or radio or newspaper. They said there thoughts come from the lord. After a while being at the house her aunt and uncle started to call her Esther, she asked why call me Esther. They said everyone gets a holy name.

Chapter 2-3

Kirby has to do chores that she has never done before like hanging the washing,Ironing and collecting food for dinner. When she was at the flat with her mum they never hang their washing it was always in the dryer. Every time Kirby does a sin the family will kneel and pray for her. The prayer will take about 20 minutes and some of the children will be crying. After a while Kirby joined them then they finally stops and Kirby feels numb. Kirby wanted to know why her mother left her so she asked her uncle but he said it has nothing to do with you child, so he asked Daniel then he said there's some bags that her mothers owns in the garage. Daniel thinks that sometimes his father is wrong. When she found her mothers clothes she held them tight then her uncle Caleb saw her and said go to your room. She was relieved that he didn't call all of the kids to come and pray. Morning came and her aunt woke her up at six in the morning to go to the discipline room to study.

Chapter 3-4

Kirby finds a letter sent from her mother. Kirby still wants to find out where her mother is. When they were at the park they walked past a dairy so Kirby looked at the newspaper to see if anything had happened to her mother but there was nothing about Africa. When she was in the discipline room her uncle and the family left so she was home by herself. After a while when the family was gone from home she went into uncle Caleb's study room to see if there were any more letter sent from her mother that her uncle was hiding from her.

Chapter 4-5

Kirby had been told to go and wake up the kids because they were going to town to buy their uniform. So Kirby went to go wake up the boys but they were already up so she went to wake up the girls. Once she woke up the girls they jumped up with happiness. While Kirby was braiding Maggie’s hair Kirby said count me out. Then one of the twins said no or else we are going to pray but Kirby didn't listen. Then she were going to pray till you come back so Kirby joined. When they got to town Kirby didn't want to be seen by any of her friends or else she was dead. After buying their uniform they went to the lake to have a picnic. After the picnic Kirby saw a girl that looks like Miriam. Then Kirby asked the girl if she was Miriam and she nodded. So uncle Caleb had been lying to her all this time. Kirby asked why Merriam isn't dead he said because she disobeyed the rule in the house so she was dead to the family and that is what they told all the kids that she was dead.

Chapter 5-6

Kirby met two new people at the Circle of the fellowship whose names were Charity and Calamaris. They are the  two who will be going to school with Kirby. When they all met all they talked about was Miriam. Charity said that Miriam ran away. She stayed away from the house but when the police found her and took her back to Uncle Caleb he didn't want her to till she agreed to repent but she didn't accept it. So she was dead to them all. Kirby learnt they she had heaps of uncle’s and aunt’s but they were not related only in holy. She also learnt that every girl has to get married at the age of sixteen but Kirby didnt like the idea. It also seemed that Daniel and Darrian had to get married but Kirby was also wondering if her uncle will force her to get married at the age of sixteen.

Cyber Smart

What Could Happen If You Cyberbully

Cyber bullies could be sent to jail for up to three years under new Government proposals aimed at protecting victims of online bullying. It would also be an offence to send messages and post material online that was grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, menacing or knowingly false, punishable by up to three months imprisonment or a $2000 fine.

                                  What Is Cyber Bullying?
The Internet and mobile technology are very powerful. But if misused, they can also be dangerous to yourself and others. Most of the time we make sure that people are old enough and pass special tests before they drive cars, operate heavy machinery or otherwise use potentially powerful technology. This is for their safety and the safety of others.

What Can Cyberbullying do to you?
# threats,
# sending provocative insults or racial or ethnic slurs,
# gay-bashing,
# spreading rumors, lies and inappropriate photos,
# attempting to infect the victim's computer with a virus, and flooding an e-mail inbox with nonsense messages.

                                                                    What is cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying, as defined by Whatis.com, is use of email, instant messaging, chat rooms, pagers, cell phones, or other forms of technology to deliberately harass, threaten, or intimidate someone. Bullies can hide behind an electronic veil, disguising their true identity. This makes it difficult to trace the source, and encourages bullies to behave more aggressively than they might face-to-face.

Tim-Writing Sample

This is a writing sample that I have created. We have been given a sentence to put into our story.

Carefully taking steps down the path from the library, I could see the clouds enveloping the sky as the sun takes it's rest.  Looking around I could hear dead silence from my fellow people as they close down their houses when the moon shines brightly over the world.  Softly walking through the neighbourhood dogs howling like wolves wanting fresh meat for the pack.

There was only one way home Dusky Dark Ave. Coming to the street of Dusky Dark ave, where the moon never shines, also where no man or woman has seen light again. I could see nothing but shadow in the gloomy dark place.  Slowly strolling down the street, my body shivers from the tip of my toe to the top of my skull, still nothing had happen to me yet. Seeing nothing but darkness was trouble because no one was around. Suddenly I heard scratching but couldn't see  through the darkness. I switched my phone and shone it around to see if anyone was there. Frightenly jogging down the street I was hoping for it to end. Slowly a voice skimmed past my head “Help”. I looked back and saw a little girl with a white dress holding a back teddy with red eyes. Her face was pale like the moon. As I was looking up I could see tears dripping down from her face but they weren't ordinary tears because the colour of her tears were red. Then I heard the scratching again and realized it was just a cat. I Faced back towards  the little girl but she was gone. Quickly I ran for my life praying that I would see light.

Finally I could see light again and it made me glad that I could see the light. Morning came, as I was wiping the sleep off my face.Looking out I could see men building lights at Dusky Dark Ave because it wouldn't be so hard walking through.

Weekly Poem

Weekly poem

WALT read a poem and analyse the language features of a poem.

What makes a person more Beautiful & Attractive
is a genuine smile.
A bright shining soul that shines brighter than the sun, that can travel unlimited miles.
One who spreads Positivity & Love when they can,
and gives… Without a palms up hand.
Generosity,Understanding,Kindness,a sense of humour.
Someone that does Not spread hurtful rumours.
Someone who is confident, self loving, but does not brag about.
Someone who thinks shes beautiful inside ,& knows we are all equal,
Gods people without a doubt!
Always seek in life to Beautify Yourself & Others too…
So they may pay it forward &
be inspired by what they saw you do.
What beautiful people we’ll have to look toward too!
Endless Blessings & good karma will be bestowed on you.
Infect & scatter joy & positivity…
Not pain, hate and negativity!
Written/Submitted by Stephanie Rose Velvet Johnson.

1. Summarise the poem you have read in your own words.
  • The poem I read this week is about beauty. It dosent matter what  is outside of your body, it maters what is inside. This means people that have great personality even if their pretty or not. e.g People go for the look’s of other people but I think people should go for what's inside them get to know them then you will really know what he/she is like.

2. Identify at least 2 different language features in the poem and give examples. You can identify more than 2 language features.

  • One of the language features in this poem is a _ Simile____. Here is an example of this language feature A bright shining soul that shines brighter than the sun
  • Another language feature in this poem is a ___Metaphors__ .Here is an example of this language feature One who spreads Positivity

3. Evaluate (which means reflect and give your opinion) the author’s purpose for writing this poem - in your answers include the words: inform, entertain, persuade.

  • By analysing the poem I have read this week I think the author wrote this poem because she thinks people should not always feel beautiful on the outside they should always feel beautiful in the inside as well.
  • The author was informing the audience about beauty, it doesn't matter about the beauty outside of you it matters about the beauty within you.
  • The author was entertaining the audience by Describing how a person can be beautiful. (emotions/language features)
  • The author is trying to persuade the audience to believe that they are beautiful no matter what anyone says.

4. Add a picture on your Doc related to your poem.
